I had a dozen photocopy pieces I had done about Truman Capote after reading the criticism leveled at him and his Black and White Ball—that the money from In Cold Blood fueled this party—and I found a resonance in the photocopy: that in each generation, detail may be lost but the image becomes darker—the stain—so the drawings are over photocopies of photocopies of photocopies where the origins may be obscured but do not disappear; the origins of money cannot be buried/covered, the image of the mug shot is not lost over time, it just becomes a darker stain...
